Trumps signs bill to avoid shutdown

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump signed sweeping spending bills after he let Washington on Friday that allow the government to operate even as they do little to address the national debt, avoiding the dramatics of a shutdown crisis,
Trump signed the two bills as he jetted to Florida for two weeks at his Palm Beach resort. The legislation was broken into two bills after Trump said he'd never sign a sweeping government spending measure again.
Trump had earlier signed an enormous defense authorization act at a ceremony before he flew south. The $738 billion bill grants federal employees paid parental leave and authorizes Trump's much-touted Space Force branch of the military.
Lawmakers hammered out the packages despite partisan rancor caused by the impeachment proceedings.
